Tech Central Station: The author of this article has put forward a good case for intellectual property rights, and the defence and enforcement of those rights. Unfortunately, in the process he has misrepresented the people he views as his opponents. While there are quite possibly people who argue for the abolition of all IP rights, most opponents of the current system believe in IP rights but want the details changed. They don't argue that copyright should be abolished, but that it shouldn't last as long as it does. They don't argue that the patent system should be abolished, but that the system is being abused with frivolous and non-inventive patents. They don't argue that IP rights should be scrapped to help the third world, but that a system of IP rights has to acknowledge that the point of the system is to improve a society.
